I'm a bit late, but I decided to make one as well. I tried to find positive aspects in the new version. I really did. Here is what I came up with:
Things I like:
I like the fact that when you do search something and go further down a few pages, if you want to reload the page because some of the thumbnails didn't load the first time around ( which is often my slow internet case), it actually does refresh the page. In v6 this was bugged and you would get tossed back to the first result page - which is, of course, annoying.
I like the fact that I can comment directly underneath a deviation's description, without having to browse to the bottom of the page.
Things I am neutral about:
This drop down menu thing. I can see it as being annoying, I can see it as being an improvement, I personally am neutral about it.
The deviation title and the category being underneath the actual deviation. It kind of irks me, but I will leave it in the neutral category.
Superbrowsing, or whatever they call it. The arrows-in-the-bottom-of-the-page thing. It can be good in fast internet computers, it can be glitchy in slow internet computers ( like mine), so I'll just leave it in the neutral category.
Things that I find funny:
On DA's main "v7 release" article, the "other people's opinions" part is funny. It reminds me of telemarketing ads of useless products which have the mandatory part of people declaring how satisfied and happy they are with their new pants made out of jam and how everyone envies them.
The avatars are now just floating around in thin air, it seems, That looks funny. >>
Things I don't like:
Lack of search bar in our pages. How wise, don't you think, of an art site, to make the "searching art" function less accessible? Now you can only find it in the main page. Bring my search bar back.
Deviation resizing. They had released this feature a few months ago and we didn't like it, now it's here again. I don't want DA to automatically resize big deviations to random resolutions so that I have to download them to really full view them.
The zooming in feature? It fails. I spent 5 minutes last night looking at a blurred zoomed in picture, wondering"is this how the artist really did it?" Downloading proved me right: Zoom had butchered it. Also, there is a bug while zooming in, the zoomed picture will often overlap the artist's description and it will just look messy and ugly.
When you zoom in on a picture, the "add to favorites" button is entirely obscured. In v6 at least it would come up if you hovered above it, now you have to zoom out again.
I don't like the huge buttons in the deviation pages which are there for 2 year olds to point, click and gurgle. They look ugly. Bigger does NOT equal better - not in this case anyway. If DA is so proud of having saved pixel space, why did they go ahead and waste it to crap like this?
I don't like the fact that if the artist's description is more than 3 lines long you have to click on it to read the rest of it. Artist's descriptions are there to be read, we don't want DA to become youtube where every artist will have to scream in 72 font "READ THE BLOODY DESCRIPTION" for those who don't. Not enough people read it as it is. Minimize it like this, nobody will.
I will also have the ads bulging my eyes out when my sub expires - I hear they are on deviation pages now, at the deviation level or something. Which OF COURSE is all about EMPHASIZING THE ART. PROMISE. (Notice the sarcasm? Good.)
When you type a comment you can't see your cursor. There is a reason there is a cursor on every typing utility out there, don't you think?
The message box thing. Why did you have to change that? The horizontal user bar is small enough as it is, I am sure it couldn't HURT to leave the message box display as it was. We want to know what kind of messages we have.
When you are browsing someone's gallery or favourites, if you click on something it will first open up the picture, THEN after 10 seconds or something it will take you to the deviation page. People right-click, save and run often as it is, this is just gonna make things worse - or better, depending on the point of view... Moreover, on slow internet computers (because not all of us have fast and shiny sleek internet hurr hurr), it sometimes will fail to load the script that redirects you to the picture's page after those seconds have passed, giving you the "invalid response, failed to load whatever" message. That takes about half a minute away from my life every time it happens.
I am sure there are other things that will annoy me when I stumble upon them, but these will have to do for now. Also, just so you can't say that I didn't try:
Constructive criticism on a possible solution:
I can understand that the DA stuff has probably worked hard on this version, but it reminds me of windows vista. And we all know how shiny and *cough*functional*cough* windows vista is.
Here is what I suggest: Every site and their mom have a skin option, why not DA? So if the DA stuff wants to keep coming up with useless widgets how about this instead: Make skins. Let us choose which version we want to browse in, like a skin. That way EVERYONE will be happy. So simple, no?

End of v7 rant. Now. FEATURES. Because everybody loves features.
Does anyone want to be featured? If yes, comment me with the links of 1 or 2 or 3 of your deviations that you would like me to feature. You don't have to feature me back, or do this in your journal too, or anything. Just comment with a link or two.
